Sediment Filtration & Multi-Media Bed Material
A backwashing multi-media bed removes turbidity and sediment at higher flow than a cartridge ever could. We carry the layered materials that build one — support gravel, anthracite, filter sand, garnet and Micro-Z zeolite — from Watts and Alamo, sized for whole-house and commercial depth filters.
How to choose bed media
Build in layers. A classic bed layers coarse-to-fine top-down (anthracite over sand over garnet) with support gravel below — finer filtration at higher flow.
Zeolite for finer capture. Micro-Z clinoptilolite filters finer than sand and adds some ammonia reduction.
Sized support gravel. Underbedding gravel comes in graded sizes (1/16" to 1/2") to keep media off the distributor.
Backwash to maintain. Multi-media beds are regenerated by backwashing — no cartridges to buy.
