Iron, Manganese & Hydrogen-Sulfide Removal Media
Rusty stains, black specks and a rotten-egg smell all point to iron, manganese or hydrogen sulfide in the water. Catalytic filtration media oxidize these on contact so they filter out in a backwashing tank. We carry the proven grades — Filox, Manganese Greensand Plus and Katalox Light — for whole-house iron and sulfide removal.
How to choose iron media
Match media to the problem. Greensand Plus is a workhorse for iron and light sulfide; Filox and Katalox Light offer higher capacity and faster kinetics.
Oxidation matters. Most iron media work best with adequate dissolved oxygen or a pre-oxidant (air, chlorine, ozone) — check the media's requirement.
Watch the pH. Iron media typically want pH above ~6.8–7.0; low pH may need neutralizing media upstream.
Size the bed. Media volume (CF) is set by your tank size and flow — too little media means breakthrough.
Send a water test and we'll recommend the right media and bed depth. Ask us.
