KDF-55 & KDF-85 Process Media
KDF process media is a high-purity copper-zinc granular medium that uses a redox reaction to reduce chlorine, heavy metals, iron and hydrogen sulfide — and to control bacteria and scale in filter beds. We stock genuine KDF-55 and KDF-85 in bag and bulk quantities for whole-house filters, shower filters and media blends.
How to choose KDF media
KDF-55 vs. KDF-85. KDF-55 targets chlorine and heavy metals (great in carbon blends and shower filters); KDF-85 targets iron and hydrogen sulfide.
Blend with carbon. A KDF/GAC blend extends carbon life and adds bacteriostatic protection in warm, wet beds.
Backwash to keep it working. KDF beds should be periodically backwashed to expose fresh media and prevent channeling.
Buy the right volume. Pound bags for blends and cartridges; 1/3 CF (57 lb) for full media beds.
