INSTALLATION & USE
Replacing Your GAC Cartridge
- Shut off water supply and relieve pressure by opening the faucet. Remove the filter housing using a filter wrench.
- Remove the old cartridge and clean the housing interior with mild soap and water. Rinse thoroughly to remove any residual carbon fines.
- Insert the Watts GAC20NRW cartridge, ensuring proper seating in the housing. Check the o-ring for damage and apply food-grade silicone if needed.
- Hand-tighten the housing and restore water pressure slowly. Run water for 3-5 minutes to flush carbon fines and activate the media.
COMPATIBILITY
Standard 20-Inch Housing Compatibility
The Watts GAC20NRW fits any standard 20-inch filter housing with a 2.75-inch inner diameter, including Watts, Pentek, Culligan, and other major brands. This cartridge is typically installed as a second or third stage in under-sink reverse osmosis systems or as a standalone carbon filter for municipal water treatment. Replace every 12 months or 5,000 gallons, whichever comes first, to maintain optimal chlorine and chemical reduction performance.
🔧 Pro Tip: Always flush new GAC cartridges for at least 5 minutes before use. The initial black water is harmless carbon fines, but flushing prevents sediment in your first glass and extends the life of downstream components like RO membranes.
