The Hydronix Aquatrol™ MED-MB9IG is an industrial-grade mixed bed deionization resin that combines strong-acid cation and strong-base anion resins in a balanced 1:1 volumetric blend. Packed as a full 1 cubic foot bag of virgin media, it strips dissolved ions from your feed water in a single pass to produce ultra-pure, near-zero-TDS water — ideal for RO/DI polishing, spot-free rinsing, and any application where high purity matters. This is a deionization media, not a water-softening resin.

How It Works

Two-Resin Deionization in One Bed

Cation Exchange

Positive ions swapped for hydrogen

The strong-acid cation resin captures dissolved cations — calcium, magnesium, sodium, and other metals — and releases hydrogen ions (H⁺) in their place.

Anion Exchange

Negative ions swapped for hydroxide

The strong-base anion resin captures dissolved anions — chlorides, sulfates, silica, and carbonates — and releases hydroxide ions (OH⁻).

Recombination

H⁺ and OH⁻ form pure water

Because the two resins are intimately mixed, the released hydrogen and hydroxide ions combine into pure H₂O, leaving deionized, ultra-low-TDS water at the outlet.

When to replace: Mixed bed resin is exhausted when outlet TDS begins to climb or resistivity drops. Placing a mixed bed DI stage after a reverse osmosis membrane dramatically extends resin life, since the RO removes most of the ion load before water reaches the resin.
