Bulk Activated Carbon Media for Water Filtration
Granular activated carbon (GAC) is the workhorse of taste, odor and chemical reduction — it adsorbs chlorine, chloramines, hydrogen sulfide, VOCs and the compounds that make water taste or smell "off." We stock bulk coconut-shell GAC and catalytic carbon in the mesh grades and refill sizes used in whole-house tanks, under-sink cartridges and refillable systems.
How to choose carbon media
Standard vs. catalytic carbon. Standard coconut-shell GAC handles chlorine, taste and odor; catalytic carbon is engineered for tougher chloramines and hydrogen sulfide (that rotten-egg smell).
Pick the mesh size. 12x40 mesh is the all-purpose choice for water filtration; coarser 8x16 and 4x8 grades suit higher flow rates and specialty uses.
Buy the right volume. Refills run from a few pounds up to full 1-cubic-foot bags — match to your tank or cartridge (a standard 10" x 2.5" cartridge holds roughly ½–1 lb).
Coconut-shell quality. Coconut-shell carbon offers more micropores and better chlorine/VOC capacity than coal-based carbon, with a cleaner rinse-up.
