INSTALLATION & USE

System Setup and Operation

  1. Install the Fleck 5600 control head on the resin tank and connect the brine tank drain line according to the installation manual provided with your system.
  2. Plumb the 3/4" or 1" NPT bypass valve into your main water line after the pressure tank but before any branch lines to ensure whole-home soft water distribution.
  3. Program the Econominder meter with your water hardness level and household size so the valve calculates optimal regeneration timing based on actual gallons used.
  4. Fill the brine tank with sodium chloride or potassium chloride salt pellets and allow the system to complete its initial regeneration cycle before use.

The mineral tank, control valve, brine tank, and fittings ship as separate components, with your resin and gravel media included but not loaded. You'll pour the media into the tank, mount the valve, connect the brine line, and hook up your bypass — a straightforward job for anyone comfortable with basic plumbing, typically 1–2 hours.

We pour the resin and gravel media into the tank, mount the valve, connect the brine line, and pressure-test the complete unit in our shop before it ships. It arrives ready to set in place and connect to your home's water line — no media pouring or valve-to-tank assembly required on your end.

💡Why the price difference? The assembled option reflects the labor to load the media, mount the valve, and pressure-test the unit here before it ships, plus the extra care in packaging a fully built system for freight. Either option is the same softener underneath — assembled just saves you the media pour and the bench work.

🔧 Set the hardness level 2-3 grains higher than your actual test result to account for iron content if you have well water, since dissolved iron contributes to resin exhaustion but does not show up on standard hardness tests.
