The best analogy I have ever heard about reverse osmosis is to imagine a piece of glass with a tiny pin hole in it and trying to force water through it - that is basically reverse osmosis. UPCOMING EVENT - WQA SHOW

The Water Quality Association (WQA) conventions always bring out new and innovative ideas that change how we look at water treatment.  The newest and most interesting item are Pentair's new Hybrid DI softening system; Enpress's fiberglass cartridge tanks.

Pentair's new Hybrid DI softening system will finally be released for preview in April at the Indianapolis convention. The whole idea is that you will never need to use salt again to soften your water.  This will not completely remove all the calcium from the water but about 70-80% which is significant enough to see the difference in your water hardness. The Hybrid system will be using mixed bed deionized media to actually lower the salt content in the water and when it gets depleted - it will be regenerated using electricity and magnets.  It's a very clever design. Enpress also just released their new Cartridge Tank which has an impressive water flow and very minimal pressure drop.  They report that their carbon blocks are more porous which allows them to achieve these goals.  With their porous filter cartridges, it really allows these cartridges to get some serious water flow without having any real pressure drop.  I believe that in the future, these will replace big blue cartridges as well as the Big Bubba cartridge systems.
